Studio Ghibli Artworks at Polar Bear Gallery

Polar Bear Gallery is a cosy boutique art gallery that aims to bring in contemporary art pieces that inspire and promote social and environmental conscientiousness in its audience. Currently, they are exhibiting original celluloids of famous scenes from films of the celebrated animation studio, Studio Ghibli. Part of a private collection, this is a rare opportunity to view traditional hand-drawn cels done by masters of animation.

Anatomy of Performance

Discover insights into Singapore’s dance and theatre scene with this photography exhibition by photographer Tan Ngiap Heng. He has worked with performing arts groups for 16 years, taking their publicity and production photographs. His work developed into documenting the rehearsal process, which birthed the Anatomy of Performance exhibition. Entrance to the gallery is free.

Da:ns Festival Footwork Workshops

As a lead-up to the Da:ns Festival in October, the Esplanade is  hosting a range of dance workshops for people of all ages and dance experience! From the Twinkle Toes dance-play workshops for children aged 3 to 6, to Happy Feet basic workshops for those over 55, there’s something for everyone who is interested in the art of dance.

Asian Civilisations Museum's Love, Light, Living Festival

Visit the ACM during the first weekend of September for the Love, Light, Living Festival – a celebration of the unique, vibrant cultures of Asia’s Christian communities. Held in conjunction with the ACM’s special exhibition Christianity in Asia: Sacred Art and Visual Splendour, families can enjoy performances of the Jinkli Nona and Sinulog dances. Children won’t be left out, with craft activities and storytelling sessions inspired by Christian art across Asia. All visitors will also enjoy free admission to Christianity in Asia: Sacred Art and Visual Splendour, which traces the history and spread of Christian art in Asia. Mid-Autumn @ Gardens by the Bay

The Mid-Autumn Festival means mooncakes, lanterns and stories! Head down to Gardens by the Bay between 3 to 18 September to view the beautiful giant lantern displays, stroll by colonnades of lights, enjoy traditional performances and check out 720°, a massive, interactive outdoor video installation by artist Ron Arad. You can also participate in storytelling sessions where improv actors are given 5 minutes to craft stories out of themes given by the audience! Of course, there will be a Food Street with a great spread of Asian culinary delights such as salted egg fries and chilli crab mantou (steamed Chinese buns).

Bare Your Sole Charity Walk

Join Singapore’s only barefoot charity walk and support the work that Habitat for Humanity Singapore does for marginalised communities in the Asia Pacific. This particular walk benefits Project HomeWorks, an initiative that improve the living conditions of beneficiaries by making their homes safer and cleaner. Habitat for Humanity Singapore mobilises volunteers to do a one-time intense cleaning which may include the removal of pests and replacement of broken furniture and bedding. This results in an immediate improvement in living conditions and quality of life. Sign up for a 2.5 or 5 kilometre walk, and when you’re done with the walk, be greeted by a host of fun activities suitable for the whole family!

Jane Austen Tea in Singapore

Not to be missed by fans of Romantic author Jane Austen, join the Jane Austen Circle (Singapore) for their annual afternoon of tea, scones, a capella and classical music as well as dramatised readings from her novel Persuasion. Come down in period costume if you have one, or whatever is most comfortable for you!

Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix

It doesn’t matter if you’re an F1 fan or not – you’re sure to feel the rumble of the excitement of this weekend extravaganza! Not only are the F1 drivers and their teams coming to Singapore, the entertainment highlights get bigger and better every year. This year, we’ve got legendary British rock band Queen performing alongside Adam Lambert, pop icon Kylie Minogue, indie pop band Bastille, American rock band Imagine Dragons, singer-songwriter Halsey, retro musical group KC and the Sunshine Band and a cappella group Pentatonix performing for guests!

500px Red Bull Photography Global Photo Walk

Online photography community 500px is holding their Global Photo Walk on 17 September this year. Join this global movement and meet fellow photographers to share tips and tricks. Don’t worry if you’re not a pro! Everyone of all skill levels are welcome, so just pick up whatever camera you have lying around and get out and take some photos. After all, the best camera is the one that you have on you.
