NOTHING ELSE COMES CLOSE - Singapore F1 Grand Prix 2009

The world’s only Formula 1 night race comes to our shores on the weekend of 25th to 27th September.

Yes it’s the time of the year again… When the entire Marina Bay downtown will be encircled with metal railings, all road traffic will be stopped and the circuit will be lit with 3 million watts of electricity.

In 2008, the pivotal race moment was when Felipe Massa left the pit-stop with the fuel hose still attached to his red Ferrari. He was then penalized and retired from the race. Fernando Alonso of Renault capitalized on the safety car changes to seize the lead and win the inaugural F1 night race. This was also his first ever win in 2008.

Away from the street racing, there will be the usual festivities and performances around town. English Rock band Travis, diva Chaka Khan, boy band Backstreet Boys, African music legend Youssou N’Dour, Phillipines band Rivermaya, Latin-rock band Ozomatli will join local arts such as Wicked Aura Batucada, Dawn Ho and Electrico at Marina Bay circuit. Zouk will be taking over the Esplanade outdoor theatre, DJs such as Carl Cox and John Digweed will play into the midnight hour.

Who will triumph this year under the bright streetlights? Will it be a surprise winner like last year? Or will Jenson Button of Brawn continue his ascendance to the F1 throne? Nothing else comes close to the race action and entertainment at the Singapore F1.
