Events in June 2015

June is here with a host of festivals and events for everyone in the family! Shop the day away at the Great Singapore Sale, or bring the children and participate in the Children’s Season at the museums. Sports enthusiasts will have no lack of sporting action with the SEA Games and the DBS Marina Regatta taking place this month, while music aficionados should not miss the Baybeats festival.


The Great Singapore Sale

The Great Singapore Sale (GSS) is back and it’s time to take advantage of the crazy deals around! The eight week shopping extravaganza begins on 29 May and runs through to 26 July, so you’ve got plenty of time to hunt down those bargains. Once again, the official card is Mastercard so get swiping to earn rewards and exclusive privileges! Don’t just stick to the Orchard Road shopping area – shops in Bugis, Haji Lane, heartland malls and more will be participating too!

Children's Season 2015

Every year, a collection of museums in Singapore under the National Heritage Board organises a Children’s Season just for kids! So parents, bring the kids on free heritage trails available on the National Heritage Board website or attend events such as Masak Masak 2015 at the National Museum of Singapore, which gives you a taste of Singapore’s playgrounds and features interactive installations. There will be film screenings and other family-friendly activities, so be sure to check out their Facebook page for the latest updates!

DBS Marina Regatta

Held over three weekends in conjunction with the SEA Games, you’re invited to join in Singapore’s biggest watersports festival! Cheer on the boating and sailing teams and take part in exciting fringe activities, all against the stunning city skyline of Marina Bay. Apart from sporting action, there’ll be cheerleading, dance and music competitions as well as cosplay, extreme sports, a kids zone and Singapore’s first urban beach!

28th SEA Games 2015

Singapore is hosting the SEA Games again after 22 years! Cheer on more than 4000 athletes from 11 participating countries in this biennial competition. River Games at the River Safari

School children have almost the entire month of June off from school, so the River Safari will host the first River Games just for them! Bring the kids down and enjoy activities such as brain teasers, carnival-style challenges and even remote-controlled games. Bring your A game and participate in the twice-daily game show about animal facts to win the chance to interact with the River Safari’s adorable baby bearcats!

#SgEatWithUs Carnival

#SgEatWithUs is a community initiative started to bring communities together with delicious home-cooked food. Singapore is famed for its food culture, but home-cooked Singaporean food isn’t something you can just waltz into a restaurant and order. The O.P.E.N.

Four weeks before the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) comes the pre-festival – The O.P.E.N. Intending to invite the public to contemplate and engage with the current theme of SIFA, The O.P.E.N. will see exhibitions, dance and music performances and films presented over 18 days. The artistes and their art hail from all over the globe – from Japan to Iran, China to Brazil, and of course Singapore and more – a truly fitting segue into SIFA 2015.

Baybeats

Baybeats is an annual music festival that showcases the best and the up-and-coming from Singapore’s alternative music scene. Genres covered include folk, pop, metal, post-rock, emo, punk, electro and more, so check out the line-up to find something to groove to. The strong focus on mentorship during Baybeats also enables budding homegrown talent to hone their skills in music-making, music journalism, concert photography, video production and more.
